Cannaleptic Rating, The Wine Score of Cannabis, Launches in New York

Shopping for cannabis can get complicated if you’re not an expert. There’s no product consistency across states, and the only standard method most brands use to classify products is potency—a one-dimensional method that doesn’t describe quality. But now New Yorkers have a more complex and accurate way to decide what products to purchase.

The Cannaleptic Rating is now being used by popular New York brands like Florist Farms, Foy, Heavy Hitters, Jaunty, Soft Power Sweets, and Umamii to help customers easily understand the quality of products based on aroma, effects, appearance, taste, potency, terpenes, and an analysis of potential contaminants. The Cannaleptic Rating integrates quantitative testing results with qualitative consumer responses and utilizes a proprietary algorithm to generate a Cannaleptic Score. The resulting score, inspired by the 100-point Wine Score, ensures customers get the exact experience they’re looking for when they purchase cannabis.

“Most cannabis consumers aren’t cannabis experts, and they shouldn’t have to be. When consumers spend their hard-earned money on cannabis, they should have an easy way to ensure they will receive the desired experience, and they will with our Cannaleptic Rating,” said Aaron Riley, the creator of the Cannaleptic Rating.

“The Wine Score was designed as a quick and simple way for people purchasing wine to evaluate their purchase. Cannaleptic Rating will do the very same for the cannabis industry so consumers purchasing from different dispensaries and from different brands easily understand products.”

“At Foy, we’re not just creating cannabis products; we’re dedicated to raising the bar for what quality should feel like,” said Yon and Moose Haile, co-founders of Foy. “Our focus is simple: clean, organic ingredients that honor the plant and deliver an experience you can trust every time. With the Cannaleptic Rating, consumers no longer have to guess; they can see firsthand that Foy is committed to setting a higher standard for cannabis excellence. We believe people deserve better, and that’s exactly what we’re here to provide — better ingredients, better experiences, and better choices. Because at Foy, people come before profit."

Soft Power Sweets comes from a deep heritage of the world’s best confections. Traditional news outlets that recommend our parent company do not cover cannabis, leaving a large hole for reputable recommendations in the cannabis market,” said Mike McGregor, founder of Soft Power Sweets. “This is why the Cannaleptic Rating is so important for our fledgling industry; reputable statistics-based reviews are vital for consumer confidence. Having a reliable rating system for our industry will be a major leap forward for customer satisfaction and industry legitimacy.”

“At Umamii, our focus is on delivering one of the highest quality products on the market. But with the Cannaleptic Rating, customers don’t just have to take our word for it,” said Nick Wilson, Umamii's Director of Cultivation. “Certified Testing & Data is revolutionizing cannabis and setting the gold standard for how cannabis is tested and evaluated. This rating system will help drive industry education, product differentiation, and brand excellence."

The Cannaleptic Rating is only available in New York now, but there are plans to expand to other states—ensuring travelers can have a reliable, data-backed cannabis experience no matter what legal market they’re in.
