New York's Best Events For July Fourth Weekend
We’re coming up on the July Fourth weekend. But if you’re not feeling completely patriotic this year, there are still plenty of incredible celebrations happening in New York that will allow you to feel blessedly independent. Check out some of our favorite events rocking the Empire State over the holiday.
Putnam History Museum’s History Hike

What
Ever heard of Benedict Arnold? If his name rings a bell, but you’re not sure why, you probably heard it in your American history class or on a television program about the American Revolution. He is one of the most famous traitors in American history, having tried to surrender West Point territory to the British army. Join the Putnam History Museum for a socially distanced hike, which will trace Arnold’s escape path through present-day Garrison. The hike will begin at the Philipstown Recreation Department parking lot, and is described as moderate in difficulty with “several steep hills and sections of rocky, uneven terrain.”
Admission
Museum members $8, non-members $10. All ages welcome, but the one-mile hike will include difficult terrain and steep hills. Participants will be required to sign a release before the event. To register, click here.
Carnegie Hall Citywide: Afro-Latin Jazz Alliance Featuring The Afro-Latin Jazz Ensemble

The Grammy Award-winning Afro-Latin Jazz Ensemble (ALJE) is an octet of virtuosos with roots in Latin jazz traditions trailblazer by greats like Tito Puente and Mario Bauza. Join the ALJE in Bryant Park for a fabulous performance that’s part of the Carnegie Hall Citywide outdoor summer concert series, showcasing the sounds and amazing talent of New York City. This free show spotlights the ALJE’s diverse repertoire and principal musicians, including its newest member, pianist Andrew Andron.

New York Theater Spring/Summerfest

Short plays from New York’s best emerging playwrights are on display here for a 3-day cycle at Teatro LaTea, one of the city’s most distinguished Off-Off-Broadway spaces. For nearly 40 years LaTea has been home to a vast array of English and Spanish-language experimental productions, showcasing the work of innovative Latinx artists from around the world. This year’s Summerfest from the New York Theater Festival includes pieces by Adrian Miranda, Seth Barnes, Anthony Fusco, and Joseph Vitale.

Art Omi Park and Gallery Tour

Art Omi is a haven for lovers of contemporary art in the Hudson Valley. Interested in learning more about the 120-acre sculpture and architecture park? Current work on display includes Portia Munson’s Flood, Alexandre Arrechea’s Orange Functional, and Iván Navarro’s This Land Is Your Land.
