What New York Consumers Really Want: Jaunty’s 7/10 Survey Breaks Down Price, Effects, and Oil Preferences

Just in time for 7/10 OIL Day, a new survey from New York cannabis brand Jaunty reveals what really drives consumer decisions across the state—and the answers are all about value, function, and flavor.

According to the data, New Yorkers aren't just casual users or hype-chasers. They’re informed, effect-driven shoppers who care most about how a product fits into their daily lives—and whether it's clearly labeled, fairly priced, and easy to access.

Top Takeaways from the Jaunty Survey

The survey, conducted by SurveyMonkey in May 2025, polled 500 adult cannabis consumers across New York State. The goal? To better understand buying behavior, oil preferences, and trust in the legal market.

Here’s what stood out:

  • 60% of respondents are frequent users, consuming multiple times a week
  • Price (28%) and effects (26.8%) were the top factors behind purchase decisions—far outpacing brand loyalty or packaging
  • Edibles lead the product category, with over 40% choosing them most often; vapes (21.8%) and flower (17%) followed
  • Among oil-based products, consumers preferred distillate (23.6%) and live resin (19.4%)—while live rosintrailed with just 8.6%, favored by connoisseurs

“These results are incredibly valuable as we continue to expand access to high-quality, approachable products,” said Nicolas Guarino, CEO and co-founder of Jaunty. “New Yorkers are telling us loud and clear—they want consistent, functional, well-labeled products that won’t break the bank. That’s what we aim to deliver.”

The Consumer Is Getting Smarter—and Louder

Beyond preferences, the survey highlights a growing awareness among New York buyers. A majority of respondents say they understand the difference between oil types, and nearly 1 in 3 feel brands could do a better job labeling their products clearly.

While 37% say they’re “very confident” in products from licensed dispensaries, the rest indicate varying levels of doubt—pointing to a need for better education, transparency, and trust-building in the state’s developing market.

“New York has one of the most discerning consumer bases in the country,” Guarino adds. “This survey proves they’re doing the research, they care about what’s in their carts, and they expect excellence from their brands.”

Jaunty’s Role in the Market

Founded in 2017 and operating out of Hoosick Falls, Jaunty is a GMP-certified company producing some of the state’s most popular oil-based products. Known for being the only brand in New York offering distillate, live resin, and live rosin across its product lines, Jaunty has gained a strong foothold in licensed dispensaries with a reputation for flavor, quality, and accessibility.

This summer, the company is launching a new line of Live Resin Vapes, made with full-spectrum, terpene-rich oil for true-to-strain effects and bold flavor profiles. Available across licensed New York dispensaries, the release is timed with OIL Day to spotlight the diversity and power of modern concentrates.

The Bigger Picture: Function Over Flash

While cannabis culture often leans into flashiness, Jaunty’s survey makes it clear: New York consumers value function, not just form. The top three reasons for choosing a product—price, effects, and convenience—underscore a practical approach that brands should take seriously.

As the adult-use market matures, companies that listen, adapt, and communicate clearly will be the ones to thrive.
