Sexy actor Jack Kesy plays Gabriel Bolivar, a rock star who turns into the master of vampires in Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan’s new FX TV series, “The Strain.” It’s a thriller sci-fi story about a mysterious viral outbreak of vampirism. The main character, Dr. Ephraim Goodweather (Corey Stoll), is the head doctor at the Center for Disease Control in New York City.Kesy said about his character, “Bolivar is an icon figure of a shock rocker, like a Marilyn Manson or Iggy Pop — a spoiled brat prince of darkness.”Emmy Award-winning writer and producer Carlton Cuse (“Bates Motel,” “Lost”) is the executive producer and showrunner. The poster is enough to give you nightmares — a worm-like creature has punctured and is wriggling out of an eyeball. When I asked Kesy if it took a lot of effort to land the role he said, “I put a self-tape together and sent it off.” They were interested right away. “I flew to California to meet Guillermo del Toro and Carlton Cuse. We had coffee and went over the project, and Guillermo gave me this big bear hug, and he was like, ‘Welcome aboard, motherfucker.’ And that was it.”
“The Strain” premieres on July 13, 2014 at 10 p.m. on FX. Watch an excerpt from our interview:
