When did you first start cooking with cannabis?
I first started cooking with cannabis in 2019 as a way to show the versatility of our hemp teas. Each blend has different herbs, spices, or fruits that could take a traditional recipe to the next level.
Where did you learn to cook?
My first cooking lessons started at home. Most of what I know about preparing tasty food comes from watching my parents when I was younger. I am by no means a professional chef, just someone who loves to make delicious food and share it with others.
What sparked your passion for cooking?
Cooking is a way to connect to my Jamaican culture, it sparks some of the best memories I’ve had around food, and it has the power to connect people. For me, cooking is also fun and allows me to be creative.
What is one of your favorite infused dishes?
Matcha Rice Krispie Treats is a dessert that everyone loves and
is easy to make.
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 10 ounces mini marshmallows
- ¼ cup Rasta Matcha
- 4 cups rice krispies
- 1/2 cup of white chocolate
Directions:
- Line a 9×9 inch baking pan with parchment paper and lightly grease the bottom and sides with nonstick cooking spray.
- In a large pot, melt butter over medium to low heat. Once the butter has melted, add marshmallows to the pot. Smaller marshmallows are definitely easier to melt.
- Use a spatula to stir the marshmallows until partially melted. Add Rasta Matcha powder (sift it through a strainer) and stir to incorporate it fully into the melted marshmallows. Once the matcha marshmallows are completely melted, stir in the rice crispy cereal. Add about a cup at a time to make it easier to stir.
- When all of the rice crispy cereal is coated, pour the mixture into the prepared baking pan. Press the rice krispies mixture down and into the corners and sides.
- Melt white chocolate and drizzle on top. Be creative and add any extra toppings you would like
- Let the matcha rice crispy treats rest for about 30 mins before cutting into them.
Why do you love cooking with cannabis?
Cannabis is not a one dimensional plant and that is why I like to view it more holistically. It’s one of the most sustainable crops on the planet in which every part, from the seeds, stems, stalks, and leaves can be utilized. Infusing food with cannabis is a gateway to educate the masses about the benefits of incorporating this herb into our relaxation, social, and overall wellness routines.
Who are some of your chef inspirations?
My parents for sure.
