The Chemistry Of Joy: Journeys Through MDMA

Additionally, Stephanie co-hosts The Chemistry of Joy with Psychotherapist Jane “Banana Jane” Garnett. The Chemistry of Joy is not just educational; it's cultural, relatable, and enriching. You'll learn, you'll laugh, and you'll connect. In this session, Garnett and Abrams dive into their personal and professional journeys, exploring the intricate science behind MDMA and its groundbreaking therapeutic potential.

They highlight the power of joy, the profound influence of dance culture, and altered states with legal plant medicines like kanna, cacao, and cannabis, unveiling their potential to open hearts and minds. The Chemistry of Joy is a cultural exploration into societal impacts and the essence of human connection. It’s a rich dialogue that covers the evolution of traditional therapeutic models, from focusing on brokenness to wholeness, and shifting from rugged individualism towards a shared human experience.

Together, they bridge the gap between healing and joy, with community at the heart of the matter, bringing into focus what is most important to us through the rituals we cultivate. Join them in this discovery of the true chemistry of joy.

Stephanie Karzon Abrams's "Wonder-Full" Weedsday Playlist

For her Weedsday Playlist, Stephanie Karzon Abrams chose tracks that highlight the creative expression of the individual journey. She says, “This playlist is for the wonder, the self explorations, the travel through portals, and the expansion of the imagination.”

Nils Frahm - "Spells (Paris)"

I was in an old chapel, built sometime in the 70s or 80s, with a group of friends who had just purchased 85 acres on which this chapel stood, with plans to convert the property into something magical. The chapel we now call the temple has beautiful woodwork. As I laid there listening to this track by Nils Frahm, I couldn't help but be swept away by dreams of how this place would look in a few years from now.

Gidge - "Norrland"

I like to collect songs I call “Brain Food.” They are songs that push the bounds of my emotions and imagination. This song definitely falls within that collection and makes me feel alive, hopeful, and energized.

Peter Gregson - "I. Sequence (Four)"

I first heard this song in a loft in NYC, the creative haven of a brilliant sound gear designer. The space was alive with artfully crafted instruments and speaker systems, each piece adding to the sense of wonder. The memory is etched in my mind—awe magnified by the mesmerizing sounds of this track. The slow, elongated violin paired with fast-paced synthesizers creates a perfect, almost otherworldly dichotomy. Close your eyes, lie on the earth, and gaze at the stars above—let this music take you somewhere entirely new.

Moon Boots - "The Life Aquatic"

As you might have noticed by now, I really enjoy music that feels textured. Songs that not only evoke the senses, but actually feel like you can touch them. Moon Boots was one of my first shows when I moved to Los Angeles. They’re ethereal, they’re fun, they blur the bounds of genres, mix past, present and future.

Kerala Dust - "Spiegel"

If you’ve been laying or chilling out to these tracks, this one will get you up and moving your body. I love all the sounds in this track; it kind of sounds like a scientific sound experiment, and it’s got a little more groove. Music is inherently psychedelic; no need for substances to travel through time. Music will get you there. Music will teach you about yourself and remind you of your deep connection to this life.

Weedsday Playlist Bonus Track

Chiwoniso Mairaire - "Zvichapera"

One of my oldest friends, Max Mignot, DJ/Producer, dug this one out of his afro magic crates for a sound journey he was leading for a group of us. This song, from Zimbabwe, will remind you that we all sprouted from the same earth. I love the sound of the mbira against the vocals. From what I’ve read, the lyrics translate to “Where did it start, where will it end,” referring to suffering. Don’t let it sadden you, rather let it inspire you to be a catalyst for change.
