Skyler Devries' Unexpected Weedsday Playlist

For his Weedsday Playlist, Skyler Devries went for the element of surprise. He says,"I created a playlist that includes songs with character, and components that are unexpected but enjoyable for all.”

Walker & Royce And VNSSA - "I Don't Remember"

Firstly, the lyrics. I feel like one of those people who often “don’t remember” something, whether from just blanking on a daily task or maybe from consuming a bit too much once in a blue moon. In this track, the lyrics by VNSSA draw you in as she describes diving a bit too deep. Followed by the false drop build up, this is what really gets people going. Lastly, a classic Walker & Royce / VNSSA proper funky drop completes this tune.

ZHU And UPSAHL - "Thrill Again"

Break the rules! Nowadays you often find songs that clearly follow a format, nothing wrong with that, but at times it feels like there are “rules” to be followed while producing a certain genre of music. This track, quote on quote, breaks the rules and is perfectly complex. It constantly progresses throughout, bringing in new sounds with only 45 seconds left in the song. Kinda one of those you immediately restart once it finishes.

HELLMATE, Santiago & Carlitos, And Chantel Lewis Brown - "Show Me Love"

Honestly, I feel like this one speaks for itself, not much to say here. I feel like this version really puts the importance on the classic sample.

Planet Funk - "Chase The Sun (Odd Mob Remix)"

When the original is such a proper, well put together production and then the remix is also a very nice production, this is what you end up with. The vocal is one that gets stuck in your head, you sing/hum it but you don’t really know the words until it comes on. It's a feel good breakdown, then a let loose and dance judgment free when it hits.

Kevin Mckay - "In The Air Tonight"

Make House music 121 bpm again. A very friendly, non serious jab at the industry. I had to include something produced by Kevin Mckay here, and it was hard to pick which one. This one is one of my favorite sing-a-longs. This one is just smooth, the open high hat really gets me feeling good, too. I dare to call it perfect.
