Weedsday Playlist: Disco Dining Club's Courtney Nichols Shares 5 Songs For Your Next Dance Party

Who Is Courtney Nichols And What Is Disco Dining Club?

Courtney Nichols’s hospitality-focused career celebrates hybridized artistry and an engagement with life and art, individuals and community, conscious and altered states. Her namesake - Disco Dining Club - evolved from a backyard romp to an internationally acclaimed agency specializing in outlandish food and drink productions. Founded in 2015, the venture has been lauded by Vogue, Forbes, Playboy, the Los Angeles Times, Food & Wine Magazine, the Bravo and Oxygen TV networks, and more.

With the tagline “Consume Everything,” Disco Dining Club has been likened to a modern incarnation of Salvador Dali’s legendary parties, called “an adult wonderland,” and embraces the ultimate sensory pleasure. Notable partnerships have included RuPaul’s Drag Race’s Werq the World Tour and the Tom of Finland Foundation, the latter a nonprofit which seeks to create worldwide safe havens for erotic art and expressions of sexuality.

What's Next For Courtney Nichols?

More recently, Courtney transitioned to an in-house role, first as Experiential Marketing Director, then Brand Partnerships Director for the newly opened 727-room, 12-restaurant Moxy + AC Hotel in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles, where she fostered a community helmed by radical individuality. In search of the elusive full-night's sleep, Courtney recently ended her Los Angeles reign and is currently planting roots on the Big Island of Hawaii.

Recently, she announced that she would be taking on the role of Marketing Director for the legendary theatrical company Teatro ZinZanni. More to come on Courtney's next iteration of transformative (aka outlandish) world building.

Courtney Nichols's Healing Transformation Weedsday Playlist

“But enough with the third person formalities,” Courtney Nichols states. For her Weedsday Playlist, she chose to introduce listeners to the sounds of her most painful yet transcendent evolution. “Beyond my career and my accolades, I am a 35-year-old woman knee deep in heartache. Last year, I bravely moved on from a 7-year relationship. At first, adrenaline took the wheel; every ounce of the day funneled into work. This energy wore thin, and now I sit with my emotions - my humbling, solemn, bitter emotions. Welcome to the stage the beautiful, raw pairing of pain and music. A timeless healer. A reminder that the universal language is, in fact, heartache. Today, let’s chart our healing by way of musical gods and goddesses…”

Rose Royce - "Love Don't Live Here Anymore"

Listen to this when the pain is at its worst. Bathe in that funky, sticky Pollard Syndrum TwinDrum reverb, overlayed with heart-wrenching vocals. The track's profound simplicity is weighted with decades of torment.

Roberta Flack - "Sunday And Sister Jones"

A flawless musical encounter - a promise of goosebumps. Roberta, you show no flaws. This track lays the tombstones of grief, with no tear left unburied.

Joe Tex - "The Love You Save"

That oh-so-delicate balance of pursuing love while also protecting your heart. Find yourself a cold, crisp beer, and dance alone to this track. Your nervous system will thank you.

Prince - "How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore"

You treat me so well, B-side Prince. A lesser-known artifact from 1999, Prince’s failsafe falsetto is for the whispers of morning pain - coffee with a side of sugar and anguish.

Deniece Williams - "Free"

An open letter to those that endure. I. Shall. Endure. When heartbreak transforms into strength, let this track be your guide.
