How Did Jane "Banana Jane" Garnett Go From Film To Therapy And Plant Medicine?

Jane grew up in London, England and earned a degree in literature from Oxford University.  After graduating and working as a researcher for the BBC, Jane came to the United States to work in the film industry, where she worked as Vice President of Production for Leonardo DiCaprio. Jane then partnered with producer Michael London, executive producing the major feature film The Illusionist.

Fascinated by the narrative, pathos and catharsis of film—and now mother to two small girls—Jane transitioned out of Hollywood and into the psychological, quickly setting up her private practice as a Marriage and Family Therapist. Jane’s frustrations with the limitations of the traditional therapy model led her into a relentless series of investigations into more experimental healing modalities – including plant medicine, erotic anthropology and psychic studies. Inevitably, Jane began weaving her findings into her therapy practice, cultivating a signature soul and future-based update on the traditional therapy model. It is Jane’s joy to help people to wake up and turn on at the deepest levels, empowering them to cultivate the lives of their dreams.

Banana Jane's Mindful Weedsday Playlist

Jane says what inspired this playlist is a quote by writer and Insight Meditation Society founder Jack Kornfield: "The mind creates the abyss, and the heart crosses it."

Leonard Cohen - "Come Healing - Live In Dublin"

Leonard Cohen's late life and epic ode feels like the quintessential healing song—equally an ethereal offering of human brokenness and an invocation of divine compassion for our plight, and hopefully for our direction.

Alexia Chellun - "The Power Is Here Now"

No beating around the bush on this classic medicine song. This mantra holds the vibration of a psychedelic reset—a reinvigoration of personal power, spiritual presence, and the sense of infinite potential that arises when hearts and minds open.

Sekouba Bambino - "It's A Man's Man's Man's World"

Just a brilliant re-invention of the classic—textural, mysterious and poetic on some massive scale. This sense of the layered worlds within worlds of the human experience. A piece of music to let yourself get lost in.

deadmau5, Kaskade, And John Summit - "I Remember (John Summit Remix)"

An ode to MDMA culture. Better for the dancefloor journey maybe than the solo journey, but this one speaks to how, in psychedelic processing, we move through shadows to reunite with, and remember the lost parts of ourselves. Also, there's this sense of lost romance on a personal level but also a global level. The song evokes a sense that we were all, at one time, ONE. Or is that just me?

Nancy Wilson - "(You Don't Know) How Glad I Am"

I love adding some classic soul on a journey. Something celebratory and serotonin saturated. The Divine Feminine without anything pious attached, Just a beautiful woman unapologetically claiming her joy and spreading it around like sunshine.
