Shwayze: From Malibu Beaches to Music Stardom and Cannabis Culture

Raised on the sun-drenched beaches of Southern California, Aaron Smith, better known as Shwayze, has captivated audiences with his unique blend of alternative pop, rap, and reggae since his breakout year in 2008. The Malibu native first made waves with his debut album Buzzin’, a collaborative effort with singer-producer Cisco Adler that set the stage for a dynamic career. Their vibrant performances on the Vans Warped Tour, clad in skinny jeans and brimming with tales of Hollywood escapades, quickly established Shwayze as a force to be reckoned with in the music industry.

Shwayze's journey is not just about his musical prowess but also his deep connection to California's laid-back lifestyle, including his passion for cannabis. Known for his love of the cannabis culture, Shwayze seamlessly incorporates this aspect of his life into his artistic identity. His authentic Cali vibes and relaxed attitude are reflected in his music, creating a unique sound that resonates with fans.

Since his debut, Shwayze has continued to evolve artistically, working with various producers and releasing several independent albums under his self-funded label, Feel Good Entertainment Music. His innovative approach to blending genres has kept his sound fresh and engaging while staying true to the influences that first brought him into the spotlight.

In June of this year, Shwayze released "Single for the Summer," a feel-good anthem that doubles as a break-up song and the third single from his forthcoming album, Shwaycation. This album, a highly anticipated follow-up to his successful 2022 release Shway SZN, promises to solidify Shwayze's place in the Cali reggae scene. Featuring collaborations with notable artists like Wiz Khalifa, Bryce Vine, Kes, Common Kings, The Elovaters, and Ripe, Shwaycation is set to be a major addition to Shwayze's discography.

Beyond his music career, Shwayze has expanded his horizons into acting, landing recurring roles on popular TV shows such as “Abbott Elementary” and “Lincoln Lawyer.” His versatility as an artist and performer is evident in both his music and acting endeavors, showcasing his ability to adapt and thrive in multiple entertainment realms.

As Shwayze prepares for his headlining Permanent Shwaycation Tour, kicking off in October, he continues to bring his infectious energy and passion for music to audiences across the country. The tour is set to promote Shwaycation and celebrate his ongoing contributions to the music and cannabis communities.

Shwayze shares his smoking tips with Honeysuckle!

How do you best like to consume? Blunts, vapes, edibles, etc.?

I’m all about rolling up a joint. There’s just something about it that feels right—classic and simple.

 What are your favorite strains?

I’m big on sativas, especially Jack Herer and Blue Dream. They keep me creative and in the zone.

What are the top 3 songs that you like to listen to when you get super stoned?

When I’m lit, I love vibing to “Electric Feel” by MGMT, “Passin’ Me By” by The Pharcyde, and “Redbone” by Childish Gambino. Those tracks just hit different when you’re high.

When did you first start smoking?

I smoked once in high school, just to see what it was all about, but I didn’t really start until my first year of college. Little did I know it’d become such a big part of my creative process later on.

How does smoking help your music and creativity?

Smoking definitely helps me tap into a different headspace where things flow more naturally, but I don’t think weed is necessary to be creative. I’ve written plenty of songs completely weed-free. Sometimes it’s just about the vibe, but other times, the creativity comes all on its own.
