Maintaining good mental health is more challenging than it may appear. Even normal daily struggles and stresses can negatively impact your mental wellbeing. Still, it all becomes increasingly difficult when you’re facing things like the coronavirus pandemic and subsequent lockdowns and quarantines.

In recent years, there’s been a growing focus on one natural remedy that shows great promise as a treatment for a variety of mental conditions – psilocybin. An active ingredient found in magic mushrooms, psilocybin in the right doses could improve your state of mind and help you fight conditions such as depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and more.

So, let’s take a closer look at magic mushrooms Canada, and see how they can help you maintain good mental health regardless of the circumstances you’re facing.Mood-Enhancing Potential of Psilocybin

Study after study has shown that psilocybin has potent mood-enhancing properties and can help fight both physical and mental symptoms of anxiety and depression (1). It can go so far as to help with suicidality, reducing the occurrence of past-year suicidal thinking, planning, and attempts.

Considering that over 264 million people worldwide suffer from depression and 284 million from anxiety, it becomes clear that finding new, effective treatments is a must.

While psilocybin has a way to go before it’s accepted worldwide as a viable treatment for these mental health conditions, the interest in it is rising as more research showing its efficacy becomes published.

Psilocybin Can Help You Fight Addiction to Depressants

Alcohol is one of the best known and most often used depressants. The biggest issue with it is that mental problems can arise from drinking too much alcohol, but they’re also the reason why many turn to excessive drinking (2).

On the one hand, when consumed, alcohol can temporarily alleviate symptoms of anxiety and depression. Still, on the other, it also acts as a depressant and can change the chemistry of the brain and decrease levels of serotonin – the “happy” hormone.

Alcohol dependence is a serious issue for millions of people worldwide, and studies show that psilocybin found in magic mushrooms can help treat it.

In one study, ten volunteers with alcohol dependence received orally administered psilocybin combined with Motivational Enhancement Therapy. Their alcohol abstinence after only therapy sessions didn’t increase, but it increased significantly after psilocybin consumption. Abstinence levels continued increasing at follow-up after 36 weeks.

While more large-scale studies need to be conducted to provide conclusive evidence of psilocybin efficacy against alcohol addiction, it’s evident that it can be efficient when used correctly.

Depression, anxiety, and addiction are just some of the conditions and diseases that psilocybin can help treat, but if you’re thinking about giving this magic substance a try, it’s essential to know how to do it right.

How to Determine the Right Psilocybin Dosage

Determining the exact dosage that’s right for you can be difficult with psilocybin. This substance affects everyone differently, and factors that can determine its effects include your age and metabolism, the condition you’re trying to treat, your weight, daily diet, even your current mood when you’re taking shrooms.

Since the potency of psilocybin and your experience with it can be unpredictable, it’s always a good idea to start slow by micro-dosing and work your way up over time.

A micro-dose is between 0.1 and 0.5 grams of psilocybin canada. This will not cause hallucinations or any psychedelic effects, but it can calm your mind and help you relax. A dose between 0.5 and 2 grams is a low dose that will shift your perception but keep you grounded in reality. It can be useful for alleviating symptoms of some mental health problems.

A moderate dose of 2 to 3.5 grams and a high dose of over 5 grams are not recommended to first-time users. You’ll start experiencing a strong trip, your mental state and perception will be altered, and you might start experiencing hallucinations.

While this is something that many psilocybin users would like to experience, it can be followed by side-effects such as mood swings, nausea, fatigue, and more. So, it’s crucial to be careful and determine the right dosage by starting off small and slowly increasing.

Keep in mind that the effects can last anywhere up to 6 hours, and psilocybin can stay in your system over 24 hours (3), so avoid taking multiple doses per day. That will help you maintain better mental health without exposing you to adverse effects.

The Bottom Line

Psilocybin can be a potent treatment for several mental health disorders and conditions. However, you should never take it without consulting with your doctor. Talk with them to see whether psilocybin is the right choice for you, and have them help you determine the right daily dosage.
