The Garden State is feeling the burn – of cannabis, that is. This week marked the last deadline for New Jersey’s government to create and promulgate regulations enabling the adult-use cannabis market to go forward. And as the state’s citizens look forward to the benefits of legalization, another perk has emerged in the form of landmark brand Cookies.
One of the most globally respected cannabis companies on the market, Cookies recently announced new licensing agreements with operator TerrAscend to bring its products to New Jersey. Established by rapper Berner and his cultivation partner Jai in 2008, Cookies offers a collection of over 150 proprietary cannabis varieties and product lines, everything from flower and vapes to CBD and medicinal mushrooms. The brand’s success in its native California has been explosive and revolutionary for the cannabis industry; now it’s time to take the East Coast by storm.
Berner’s enthusiasm for the move is infectious. “We could not be more excited to announce Cookies’ expansion to the East Coast and entrance into the very important market of New Jersey,” he said. “In addition to our staple flavors, we have been working with TerrAscend on a unique Cookies menu that will only be offered in New Jersey. Add that to the first Cookies retail experience, located in the shadow of the famous 'Bada Bing' from The Sopranos, this launch is going to be epic on every level!”
TerrAscend already has a 140,000 square foot cultivation and processing facility located in New Jersey, and several locations of Apothecarium Alternative Treatment Centers throughout the state. Under the agreements, each Apothecarium will feature a “Cookies Corner” store-within-a-store.
“There are few other brands that have the reach and following of Cookies,” said Jason Wild, Executive Chairman of TerrAscend. “We look forward to building a strong partnership with Berner and team to bring its suite of world-class products to the New Jersey market.”
It’s already been a big year for Cookies, which earlier this summer announced its collaboration with Gage Growth Corp. to enter the Canadian market. The partnership with TerrAscend, a prominent multi-state operator which owns synergistic brands including Ilera Healthcare, Kind Tree, Prism, Valhalla Confections, and more, will make Cookies accessible to one of the nation’s fastest-growing regions for cannabis consumption.
Moreover, the storied brand continues its work to actively enrich communities disproportionately impacted by the War on Drugs. Cookies’ social equity program partners with local organizations such as The Hood Incubator, to prioritize economic development and business training, and justice reform, to reverse Prohibition’s harmful effects on the Black community.
One has to wonder, what will Berner and Cookies be hungry for next? If the steps into New Jersey with TerrAscend are any indication, the answer is, they will keep healing the world at every possible level. For a long-suffering cannabis community, those are just desserts indeed.
