From Cali to the Clinics: Barango Brings Real Genetics to Germany’s Medical Market
At this year’s Mary Jane Berlin, Honeysuckle caught up with Paul Finnegan, founder of Barango, a brand on a mission to bring authentic West Coast fire to Germany’s medical cannabis market. From legacy strain preservation to elevating patient access, Barango is carving a new path—one that bridges global culture with pharmaceutical precision.

Culture Meets Compliance
“Barango is all about bringing quality product to the medical market in Germany,” Finnegan says, standing in front of his booth while fans snap photos with limited-edition drops. “I’ve been lucky enough to travel the world, visiting over 200 facilities across five continents. And I’ll tell you—there’s still nothing quite like what’s coming out of Cali.”
It’s that unmistakable California flavor—built on decades of underground innovation, dialed-in genetics, and brand loyalty—that Barango aims to translate into the German market. Working with partners like BRAD from Global Genetics, the company is importing more than product. It’s importing ethos.
“We wanted to bring the real genetics,” Finnegan emphasizes. “People in Germany think they’ve smoked Runtz—but what they’ve really had are counterfeit bags with knockoff genetics. We’re changing that.”
The Runtz Revolution
The turning point? A curated drop of Skittles Runtz that hit German pharmacies and set the scene ablaze. “We’ve got another batch that just landed, and pharmacies are desperate for it,” Finnegan says. “Patients want it. It’s built a reputation underground for over a decade—and now it’s finally here, the real deal.”
Barango’s Runtz launch isn’t just a moment—it’s a movement. For years, the German cannabis market remained locked in a strictly medical mindset: high-CBD, pharma-style packaging, minimal cultural integration. But that’s changing fast.
“Fifteen months ago, everything was incredibly medical. From a product perspective, it still is,” he explains. “But the German audience? They love American cannabis culture. They’ve been watching California, and they want that here.”
Barango’s strategy is clear: legitimize top-tier flower through compliant medical channels while building long-term trust with both patients and pharmacists. For Finnegan, it’s about curating—not just importing.
Global Vision, Local Roots
As Germany moves toward full adult-use legalization, brands like Barango are setting a new standard for quality and authenticity. The company’s strength lies in its global fluency: sourcing from California legends, adapting to German regulations, and delivering an experience that resonates across borders.
“This is going even better than we thought,” Finnegan says with a grin. “We’re not just selling product—we’re building culture.”
