Spend Giving Tuesday With Silent Cry Inc: Helping Communities Treat Trauma By Harvesting Hope
Silent Cry, Inc. is a nonprofit human rights organization that takes a holistic approach to aftercare from mass incarceration, gun violence, and trauma. Founded by internationally-renowned advocate Shawanna E. Vaughn, Silent Cry works to support children and families impacted by poverty-related trauma. The team provides resources to those currently and formerly incarcerated, striving to help people heal through the process of self-development and overcoming grief. Silent Cry additionally raises awareness of Post-Traumatic Prison Disorder, calling for comprehensive prison and policy reforms across the country to address training for core competencies in all trauma-informed mental healthcare.
Silent Cry Inc. Serves Communities

Now it’s time to end the year with a bang… and again, our successes will be thanks to you!

Numbers Don’t Lie: Silent Cry Inc. Touches Lives, One Person at a Time
In 2023, Silent Cry saw:
1887 people directly served
162 mental health referrals
Over 270 people fed
3000 people clothed
You read that right. This year for Silent Cry has been one of incredible growth and change, as we have worked on multiple fronts, but especially in two places that are dear to us: Michigan and New York City. We have worked both alone and with partner organizations to feed, clothe, refer, and walk alongside thousands of people in our communities this year.
We are pushing hard to end the year on-track, and that is why we need your help to meet those goals. Our fundraising goal is $50,000.00, which will help us continue meeting the needs of those whom we serve. We are doing big things in our local communities, from I Am Beautiful to Harvesting Hope. Our goal for 2024 is to open the Harvesting Hope adult pilot program for Post-Traumatic Prison Disorder and to implement our Trauma Bus program.
Every penny you donate to Silent Cry is tax-deductible, but it also goes directly to working in the lives of those who need help the most. We are system-impacted, peer-led, Black-owned and Black-led, focusing on the needs and empowerment of our people. Our goals are to break the cycle of poverty and racism and mass incarceration, to rebuild our communities and families, and to break the chains of trauma.
Help Silent Cry meet these goals! Please consider donating today.
Harvesting Hope
Harvesting Hope is Silent Cry’s farm property located in Southeast Michigan. When completed, this groundbreaking project will serve youth aging out of foster care and as a reentry vessel for those returning home from incarceration with Post-Traumatic Prison Disorder. With the assistance from the State of Michigan, the Survival and Flourishing Fund, and the help of individuals and organizations all over the country, our pilot programs will help over 100 people move from surviving to thriving. Please consider partnering with Silent Cry in making this project a success! Click here to learn more.
Remembering Daniel F. Jones
Nationally-renowned criminal justice advocate Daniel F. “Danny” Jones was taken from us far too soon. We gathered on November 20, 2023 to raise awareness about issues that touch Daniel’s Laws. One of the ways that Danny keeps giving back to his community and to the work he loved so much is with the Daniel Jones Juveniles in Incarceration Education Act, a new bill that seeks to improve the educational well-being of young people incarcerated in the state of Michigan.
