Timeline: Cannabis in America

Canada has just voted to legalize adult-use cannabis, the new Farm Bill to legalize growing of industrial hemp in the United States is picking up steam, and we’re all smack-dab in the middle of Hemp History Week. It’s a great time to be alive and advocating for this miracle plant.

In our upcoming print issue ONE, we’ll share a lot about how hemp contributes to sustainability, planetary wellness, and holistic connection between humanity and the Earth. But first let’s take a look back at the timeline of cannabis in the U.S. for a refresher on the rollercoaster of emotion, law, and politics that has gone hand in hand with the hemp movement. Prohibition and stigma have been plaguing the American cannabis community for over a century. As designed for our CANNABIS issue by Art Director Naomi Rosenblatt, here’s what you should know.

Hemp History Week runs until June 10, 2018. For more information about the hemp movement and how you can incorporate hemp into your life, visit, the Hemp Industries Association at, or Vote Hemp at
