We journeyed deep into the heart of the Hemp Revolution when researching our print issue ONE (all about sustainability, planetary wellness, and holistic thinking). Now, as recent amendments to the Farm Bill indicate hemp could be made federally legal, the agricultural cousin of marijuana takes center stage at the Cannabis World Congress & Business Expo (CWCBExpo) in Boston. Here’s what you need to know.

The health, environmental, and economic benefits of reviving the hemp industry in America will be discussed and showcased in partnership with the National Hemp Association (NHA) at the CWCBExpo, October 17-20, at Boston’s John B. Hynes Convention Center. CWCBExpo is the leading B-to-B trade show and conference for the growing legalized cannabis market.

On Thursday, October 18th, NHA Chairman Geoffrey Whaling will deliver a special session on “Hemp in America.” He will enlighten attendees on the impending passage of the Hemp Farming Act language contained within the 2018 Farm Bill and its positive impact on the farming, manufacturing, construction and research sectors of our economy. NHA has been working closely with all relevant federal government agencies who will have oversight of this new commodity crop, including the DEA, USDA, and FDA. Whaling will give CWCBExpo Boston attendees an update on this federal legislation and explore the tremendous potential industrial hemp will have on the U.S. economy.

NHA is also presenting an exhibit floor Hemp Museum featuring historical and new hemp products including nautical rope from the 1700s, 100% sustainable hemp bags, and a BMW i3 made with the same hemp fiber now being used for sustainable auto components. Hemp is cannabis, yet hemp is not marijuana and marijuana is not hemp – as hemp does not contain the psychoactive THC.

CWCBExpo Boston attendees should also be on the lookout for the following highlights:

-Headline Speakers: Keynote Address by media personality and marijuana advocate Montel Williams, a conversation with former Governor of Massachusetts Bill Weld (now a board member of Acreage Holdings), and an industry update by Giadha Aguirre de Carcer, founder and CEO of New Frontier Data. -Add-On Workshops: “Open a Cannabis Business;” “Advanced Cannabis Investment Workshop;’ “The Secret Sauce: Developing IP and Production Best Practices;” and “Growing Organic Cannabis.”

-ART420 installation in association with the family foundation of legendary reggae singer and activist Peter Tosh, featuring a gallery of cannabis-inspired art throughout the exhibit floor
